In 2019 Professor London led the curation of the Lean Construction Collection. This collection contains informative resources related to various aspects of lean construction and was part of a Linkage, Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) project, funded by the Australian Government through the Australian Research Council. Additional resources related to this collection are available through the International Group for Lean Construction (IGLC). Collection Adviser: Professor Kerry London, There are over 460 resources and links to short and informative videos, podcasts, policies, research and position papers and short articles. Something for everyone. There is a 12 Part Video Series from our colleagues in the US as well as more advanced research papers on lean innovations and methodologies.
Lean construction is the creation of value through the elimination of waste. Originally derived from the Toyota Production System, lean construction has borrowed and adapted various concepts, systems and tools from lean manufacturing. Lean construction aims to increase efficiency and productivity leading to profitability, all whilst adding value for the customer. The original five principles of lean are value creation, reduction of waste, identification of value streams, improvement of flow and pull.
Professor London also curated the Ethical Construction also part of a Linkage, Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) project, funded by the Australian Government through the Australian Research Council. This collection aims to inform corporate social responsibility within the construction industry, providing access to resources advising on ethical procurement, equity and diversity, code of conduct, training and education and culture. One of the greatest challenges in construction is the opportunistic behaviours evident within the constant bidding world of projects where productivity and competitiveness are premium. The overarching goal of Ethical Construction is to create better values within the industry. Alongside the companion Lean Construction Collection these resources indicate that ethical construction and lean construction can both be achieved.
